A goddess temple at Thangassery in Kollam district founded in the 15th century by the Ammachiveedu family, with the present building completed in 1968. The deity has no image: she is worshipped as two gold-clad conches on a silver-covered peedam inside a four-foot-square sanctum, and the shrine is open to worshippers of any caste or faith.
Oral tradition holds that a Brahmin patriarch of Parappur married a woman born under an ill-omened star, and that the deity was moved into a conch at Sasthamcotta with the instruction to found her worship wherever a tree should split open.
