A Dharma Sastha temple at Tholady east of Neyyattinkara, grown out of a small shrine called Tholadichan Kovil and rebuilt in 2002 with new structures and images; Makaravilakku Mahotsavam on 14 January is its main festival.
Travellers on the old Tholady path are said to have cut branches and beaten sticks beside the Ayyappa image, and the place took its name from the practice.
