History & significance

The village deity's shrine at Shamanur near Davangere, where a roughly six-foot Hanuman image is said to have been installed by Vyasaraja and the site traced back some eight centuries. The old temple was replaced by a Dravidian-style structure inaugurated in March 2000, and a three-day car festival follows ten days after Mahashivaratri.
