One of only two Annapurna temples in Kerala, originally a Vishnu-Krishna shrine roughly 1,500 years old; the Annapurna image was installed by Avittam Thirunal Raja Raja Varma of the Chirakkal Kovilakam. Both deities occupy sanctums of equal size, and the temple was re-consecrated on 23 February 1994.
The goddess is said to have sailed from Kashi with two other devis in a golden ship steered by a boatman, coming ashore at the beach now called Aayiram Thengu.
