History & significance

A seaside temple at Besant Nagar begun in 1974 and consecrated in April 1976 at the wish of the Kanchi seer Chandrashekarendra Saraswati. Modelled on the Sundara Varadaraja Perumal temple at Uthiramerur, it stacks nine sanctums across four levels so pilgrims can visit every shrine without walking above another sanctum.
