A Vishnu temple at Denkanikottai in the Tamil Nadu-Karnataka border country, built in the Hoysala idiom with a five-tiered rajagopuram; the Wodeyars of Mysore endowed its major shrines and pillared halls in the 16th century.
The Skanda Purana account here has Venkateswara appearing to the sage Kanva to save him from the yaksha Devandagadagan, taking the form of a hunter and killing the yaksha with a mace called Denkani, from which the town takes its name.
