A Vaishnavite namghar (village prayer house) near Hatbor in Kaliabor, first founded on the initiative of Bapuram Deo of Balisatra and rebuilt on its present site after the Burmese army burnt the original during the invasions of 1817-1826. Its bamboo-and-thatch fabric has since been replaced with concrete pillars and a tin roof.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Villagers hold that wishes made at the namghar, which is associated with the guardian spirit Burha Dangoria, are granted.
