The Ganesha installed here in 1892 by Bhausaheb Lakshman Jawle, known as Shrimant Bhausaheb Rangari, was the focus of India's first sarvajanik or public Ganesh celebration. The wood-and-bran idol shows Ganesha slaying a demon, an image the freedom-fighter founder intended as the victory of good over evil.
