Two clusters of Shiva temples on the east bank of Agastya lake at Badami: the main Bhutanatha group of the 7th-8th centuries under the Badami Chalukyas, whose principal shrine has a gudha-mandapa on four pillars beneath a three-storeyed superstructure, and the Mallikarjuna group of the 11th-12th centuries built under the Kalyani Chalukyas. A late 9th-century inscription naming Sridharbuteswara shows the site was still in use between the two building phases, and a smaller northern shrine is thought to have been Vaishnava before it passed to Lingayat worship.
