History & significance

A cream-sandstone temple on Ballygunge's Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue built by the Birla family over twenty-six years, designed by Nomi Bose and executed under Sompura temple architects, with a silhouette echoing the Lingaraj temple of Bhubaneswar. Consecrated on 21 February 1996, it stands on 44 kathas and carries carved panels of the Bhagavad Gita, with side shrines to Durga and Shiva.
