Singapore's Theravada temple in the Burmese tradition, begun in 1875 by U Thar Hnin and rehoused on Tai Gin Road in 1991; it is described as the only Burmese temple outside Myanmar built in the traditional Burmese manner, with teak carving throughout. Its 3-metre image, carved in 1918 from Sagyin marble and shipped 2,500 km to Singapore in 1921, is the largest pure white marble Buddha outside Myanmar.
