Shakti Peetha — The Chandranath Temple article calls the Sitakunda shrine a Shakta pitha where Sati's right arm fell with the Shakti named Bhavani, while Wikipedia's combined Shakta pithas table instead lists 'Chattal Bhavani Temple, Chittagong' at entry 67 with the upper teeth, so the identification for this region differs between sources (as of 2026). source

History & significance

A hilltop Shakta pitha above Sitakunda near Chittagong where Hindu tradition holds that the right arm of Sati fell. It is one of the 51 consecrated shrines linked to the myth of Sati's dismemberment and a major pilgrimage destination in Bangladesh.

Sthala katha — the legend

Shiva is said to have carried Sati's body across the world in a tandava of grief until Vishnu cut it apart with his Sudarshana Chakra, sanctifying every place where a fragment came to rest.
