A Shaiva temple at Kankhal, about four km from Haridwar, raised in 1810 by Queen Dhankaur of the Landaura estate and rebuilt in 1962. The complex takes in a Das Mahavidya shrine, a Ganga temple and the Daksha Ghat on the river.
Hindu tradition places King Daksha's sacrifice here: slighted by his exclusion from it, Shiva's wife Sati threw herself into the fire, whereupon Shiva sent Virabhadra and Bhadrakali to behead Daksha, who was later restored to life with a goat's head.
