A Buddhist temple at Kuruwita in the Ratnapura District, remembered as the refuge of the Buddha's Tooth Relic during Portuguese rule: King Mayadunne of Sitawaka had the relic brought here about 1549, and it lay concealed inside a kurakkan grinding stone on the premises until Wimaladharmasuriya I recovered it in 1592 and carried it to Kandy.
