A square stone Durga temple at Ramnagar, Varanasi, raised by Maharaja Balwant Singh of Banaras. Much of it was destroyed by British cannon fire when Warren Hastings sent troops to seize Raja Chait Singh, and it was afterwards rebuilt to the original design; it remains under the Banaras royal family.
The shrine is said to have been dedicated to Vishnu at first and turned over to Durga after unexplained happenings in its compound.
