The royal temple of Manipur adjoining the Imphal palace, commissioned by Maharaja Nara Singh in 1846 and rebuilt by Maharaja Chandrakriti after the earthquake of 1868, being reconsecrated in 1876. Its images were removed to Kongma during the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891 and reinstalled in 1908 beside the new palace.
Maharaja Jai Singh is said to have been told in a vision to carve Krishna's image from a jackfruit tree, work he began in 1776 and consecrated in 1779.
