The earliest structure attributed to the ancient Mataram kingdom, a Shaivite compound of one main shrine and three perwara with a Nandi and a yoni pedestal. The Canggal inscription found here in 1879 records King Sanjaya ordering a lingam raised in 654 Saka, 732 CE, which fixes both the temple and the kingdom's beginning.
