History & significance

Consecrated by the social reformer Sree Narayana Guru in 1908 at the invitation of Varathoor Kaniyil Kunhikannan of Thalassery, this shrine became a landmark of the movement to open temple worship to the Thiyya community. A statue of the Guru was added to the compound in 1927.

Sthala katha — the legend

The Guru is said to have seen his own statue at Colombo while it was still in transit from Italy to the temple.
