Commissioned by Queen Kanakwati, wife of Man Singh I of Amer, in memory of their son Jagat Singh who died young. It is one of very few Indian temples where the poet-saint Meera Bai is enshrined beside Krishna.
The Krishna image here is said to be the one Meera Bai worshipped in Mewar, carried to Amer for safekeeping from Mughal armies.
