One of the eighteen maha shakti pithas, sharing its compound with the Navabrahma temples on the Tungabhadra. The seventh-century original was destroyed in 1390 during Bahmani raids; the shrine was rebuilt in 2005 and the old image reinstalled, and the site was later taken into the government's PRASAD pilgrimage scheme.
The place is held to be where the upper teeth of Sati fell after Daksha's sacrifice.
