History & significance

A marble Shakti temple in the hills of Karauli district, founded by Maharaja Gopal Singh of the Jadaun house and completed in 1730. It draws large crowds to its annual Kaila Devi fair.

Sthala katha — the legend

A yogi's bullock cart carrying the goddess's image is said to have halted in the forested hills, and by divine ordinance the image was installed at that very spot.
