A Vishnu temple at Kaladipet in Thiruvottiyur, north Chennai, estimated at some five hundred years old, whose construction in the early 1700s was funded by Joseph Collett, the East India Company's President of Madras, at the request of his administrator Vijayaraghavachariar.
The temple's founding tale says Vijayaraghavachariar kept travelling to Kanchipuram even after a local temple was built because of the beauty of the processional deity there, so Collett had that deity brought to the new shrine.
