A temple on Bharathiar Street in Karaikal built in 1929 by Malaiperumal Pillai for Punithavathi, known as Karaikal Ammaiyar, the foremost woman among the sixty-three Nayanmars of Saiva Siddhanta.
She is remembered for feeding Shiva as the mendicant Bhikshatana with curd rice and mangoes, which is why mangoes are given out at the Mangani Tirunal on the full moon of Aani.
