Founded in 1936 after Sant Isher Singh and Sant Kishen Singh settled at Rara at the request of Sardar Gian Singh Rarewala, on land bought and partly donated by neighbouring villagers. It takes its name from Sant Karam Singh of Hoti Mardan.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The village is said to have become Rara Sahib, rather than plain Rara, after the sixth Guru, Hargobind Sahib, visited it.
