A white stupa 46 metres high near Sagaing, built between April 1636 and May 1648 under King Thalun of the Restored Toungoo kingdom. Its formal name Yaza Mani Sula refers to the relics enshrined in its chamber, and its rounded, egg-shaped dome, modelled on the Ruwanwelisaya in Sri Lanka, sets it apart from the usual Burmese bell profile.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Local belief holds that the relic chamber contains the Buddha's lower left tooth, eleven hair relics and an alms bowl, and that the dome was raised around a 7.3-metre marble Buddha image.
