A soapstone temple of the late eleventh century with inscribed additions by the Hoysalas down to 1131, holding lingas in two shrines and a Vishnu image in the third. Balligavi was a leading Western Chalukya town and a centre of the Kalamukha Shaiva order; the temple is now a monument of national importance.
Some inscriptions at the site connect the temple with the legend of the demon Bali.
