A hilltop Murugan shrine at Chromepet in Chennai, reached by a climb of about eighty steps and consecrated in 1979 after a proposal by the Kanchi seer Chandrashekarendra Saraswati in 1956. Modelled on Swamimalai, it draws thousands each month for circumambulation and hosts an annual Soorasamharam.
Devotees recount that Murugan's vel was found on the hillside as it was being cleared, which spurred the community to press on with building the temple.
