A group of Jain basadis at Lakshmeshwara in Gadag district, known in antiquity as Puligere or Hugligere, of which the Shankha Basadi dates from the 7th century and the Anantanatha Basadi from about the 12th. Inscriptions of the 7th and 8th centuries record grants to them, and Kunkuma Mahadevi, sister of Vijayaditya, built a large Jain temple here in the reign of Kirtivarman II.
