History & significance

A Goud Saraswat Brahmin temple at Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, affiliated to the Kashi Math, whose consecration rites began in 1864 and concluded on Akshaya Tritiya in 1865. It was founded at the instance of Srimad Bhuvanendra Tirtha with the support of the four Chowguli families.

Sthala katha — the legend

The image is said to have come from Innoli, whose community could not sustain the offerings, and the swami is remembered as asking the god to accept whatever naivedya the people of Kanhangad could give and to return four times the blessing.
