A goddess shrine about 60 km from Ranchi, founded around 1300 by the Adivasi Munda king Kera of Singhbhum and held to be some seven centuries old. It is worshipped by both Hindu and Sarna tribal devotees, and its sixteen-armed image is unusual in the region.
The temple's founding story says King Kera, defeated in battle, worshipped at the sacred grove here and won his kingdom back by the goddess's blessing.
