A ruined temple complex of the Kamarupa Pala period, first noticed by Edward Dalton around 1855 and excavated from 1977, which uncovered a main temple and the remains of about a dozen more. Its sculpture, dated by the excavators to the 10th-12th centuries, includes Bhairava, Vishnu, Saraswati and celebrated Uma-Maheshwara couples.
Puranic tradition holds that Kamadeva, burnt to cinders by an angry Shiva, was reborn at this spot.
