History & significance

Completed in 1600 by Gopal Singh of Karauli on the bank of the Bhadravati in the Aravalli hills, to house a Madan Mohan image brought from Vrindavan for safety. It is counted among the four dhams of Karauli district and is treated as a required halt on the Govardhan Yatra.

Sthala katha — the legend

Gopal Singh is said to have been told by the deity in a dream to fetch his Madan Mohan image from Vrindavan to Rajasthan before Aurangzeb's attacks on temples.
