A pagoda at Bago built by King Bayinnaung between November 1559 and May 1560, its hti raised on 2 January 1561, to house a gold and jewel-encrusted replica of the Buddha's tooth given by Dharmapala of Kotte. The relics arrived in 1576, were carried off to Taungoo by Anaukpetlun in 1599 and on to the Kaunghmudaw at Inwa by Thalun in 1636; earthquakes on the Sagaing fault damaged the stupa in 1564, 1583 and 1888, levelled it in 1930, and it was rebuilt in the 1950s.
