A 25 m marble image of the seated Buddha at Naypyidaw, cut from stone quarried at Sagyin near Mandalay. Work began on 14 June 2020 and the statue was consecrated on 1 August 2023, the project driven by the ruling State Administration Council and funded largely by military-linked businessmen and retired officers.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
Its name Maravijaya means to conquer Mara, the demon the Buddha overcame at the moment of his enlightenment.
