History & significance

Built in the late nineteenth century by Nagarathar merchants from Tamil Nadu, with Palaniappa Chettiar named as its founder, this is the principal Hindu temple of Ho Chi Minh City. A raja-gopuram about 12 metres high fronts a mandapam, and deity figures line the outer walls. It now serves some fifty Tamil families, but most of those who come to worship are Vietnamese or Sino-Vietnamese devotees of Mariamman.
