A Shiva temple at Chunabhatti in Darbhanga district established in March 1949 by Mitthu Mistri Thakur and named after him. Since his death in October 1982 it has been kept up by his sons and their descendants, and it fills at Mahashivaratri, through Shravan, at Naga Panchami and at Kartik Purnima.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
A wandering sage who came to Mitthu Thakur's house for food is said to have vanished after eating, having told him to build a Shiva temple at the spot where he had long been pouring water on a black stone.
