History & significance

The main Hindu temple of the Sri Lankan hill town of Matale, raised on paddy land gifted in 1852 and completed in 1874 under Nattukottai Chettiar patronage. Its 108-foot rajagopuram, finished in 2007 and carrying over a thousand sculpted figures, is one of the tallest temple towers on the island.
