The largest teaching centre of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism outside Tibet, founded in 1963 at the Bylakuppe Tibetan settlement by Penor Rinpoche, eleventh throneholder of the Palyul lineage. It remains the seat of that lineage, now led by its twelfth throneholder, Karma Kuchen.
