The principal temple of the pilgrim town of Amarkantak, enclosing the kund accepted as the source of the Narmada. It was raised by the Kalachuris of Tripuri and later renovated by the Holkar queen Ahilyabai.
Adi Shankaracharya is said to have declared this stream the true source of the Narmada while searching for its origin.
