A Kali temple on Mandir Marg west of Connaught Place, built in the 1930s after years of demand from New Delhi's growing Bengali community, with an acre of land allotted on the new road and Subhas Chandra Bose as the first president of its committee. Its image follows the one at Kalighat in Kolkata, and the temple has become the centre of Bengali cultural life in the capital; its Durga Puja, first held in 1925, is among the oldest in the city.
