History & significance

Planned by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and funded by the Birla family, this marble temple on the Banaras Hindu University campus took from 1931 to 1966 to build and is modelled on the Kashi Vishwanath temple. Its shikhara rises about 77 m, nine shrines are gathered into one structure, and the full text of the Bhagavad Gita is inscribed on its inner walls.
