The principal Jain temple of Patan, founded in the 8th century by Vanaraja Chavda when he established the city and rebuilt in white marble in the 16th-17th century after being destroyed; it also enshrines Vasupujya and images of the Jain teachers Kakkasuri, Devachandrasuri and Yashodevsuri.
What follows is the temple’s own traditional account, transmitted through liturgy and local memory. It is recorded here as tradition, not as attested history.
The main Parshvanatha image is said to have been carried to Patan from Vanaraja's ancestral village of Panchasar.
