History & significance

A centuries-old Shiva temple at Parassala near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border, founded by Mallen Chembakaraman Delava of the Venad royal house and built largely in stone. Its Shiva faces west, a rare orientation in Kerala, and its rites have long admitted worshippers of every community.
