History & significance

A well-known Amman temple at Pariyur near Gobichettipalayam whose present structure, with a five-tier main gopuram, was raised in the mid-1950s; its foundation date is unknown. The place takes its name from the Tamil chieftain Vel Pari.

Sthala katha — the legend

The goddess is credited with the prosperity of Vel Pari's reign, one of the seven legendary patrons of Tamil tradition.
