History & significance

One of the Nipponzan-Myohoji peace pagodas, 28.5 m high and 23 m across, on the slopes of Jalapahar hill at Darjeeling. Its foundation stone was laid in 1972 under the Japanese monk Nichidatsu Fujii, it was designed by M. Ohka, and it was inaugurated in 1992 as a focus for people of all races and creeds seeking world peace.
