A scattered complex of shrines and cave sanctuaries in the limestone Huong Tich hills south-west of Hanoi, with a temple recorded here in the reign of Le Thanh Tong in the fifteenth century and a stele documenting the terraces and shrines built in 1686 under Le Hy Tong. Bronze images were cast in 1767 and replaced in 1793; buildings damaged in the French and American wars were repaired, the bell tower in 1986 and the gateway in 1994. It draws one of the largest pilgrim festivals in northern Vietnam.
The bodhisattva Quan Am is said to have travelled south and settled at Huong Tich in order to save human souls, and a stone at nearby Phat Tich is held to preserve her footprint.
