History & significance

Commissioned by the prince of Ubud, Cokorda Gede Agung Sukawati, and designed by the sculptor and ritual architect I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, the temple was begun in 1951 and finished in 1952. Dedicated to Sarasvati, goddess of learning, literature and art, it is among Ubud's best-known landmarks for the lotus pond and water garden fronting its outer courtyard.
