Founded in Vrindavan in 1542 by Jiva Goswami, this is one of the central shrines of Gaudiya Vaishnavism and preserves the Giriraj Shila, a Govardhan stone kept as a relic within the temple.
The Giriraj Shila is said to carry Krishna's own footprints and to have been handed to Sanatana Goswami by Krishna himself, so that four turns around the temple are held to equal one circuit of Govardhan Hill.
