The Dharmachakra Centre, seat in exile of the Karmapa and principal monastery of the Karma Kagyu school, first built in the mid-18th century under the 12th Karmapa. The 16th Karmapa found it ruined after leaving Tibet in 1959 and had it rebuilt over four years, inaugurating it at Losar in 1966; it holds his relics in a golden stupa and houses the Karma Shri Nalanda Institute.
