A temple complex on an island in the Indus at Sukkur, settled in 1823 by the Udasi ascetic Baba Bankhandi Maharaj and built up from 1899 under the eighth gaddi nashin Sant Harnam Das. Its Teerath Asthan is described as the largest Hindu temple in Pakistan, and the annual Bankhandi Maharaj mela draws thousands of pilgrims for three days of free lodging and food.
Bankhandi is said to have been visited in a dream by the goddess Annapurna, who gave him a kamandal with the promise that while it stayed on the island the community kitchen would never lack grain.
